Mystery Shopping is a tool traditionally used by companies to measure quality of their service from an external fresh perspective.

Mystery Shoppers act ‘undercover’ as normal consumers to interact with the business as a normal customer and report on the experience which can include many aspects of the interactivity including staff or surroundings.

Mystery Shopping can take the form of a physical visit to the clients premises, home visits by the clients salesperson, telephone and latterly Internet.

Mystery Shoppers are usually paid and their purchases are reimbursed by the company they are working on behalf of.

The Mystery Shopping evaluation is normally used for the management of the quality and performances of goods and services.

Traditionally, instructions to mystery shoppers can include a script of behaviour, questions to ask, complaints to give, purchases to make, and measures to record, such as time it takes to receive attention from an employee or receive a service, or the responses given to questions.

However, with the increased importance of being ‘one step ahead of the competition’ more advanced and complex Mystery Shopping including Audio and Video Recording.
